Before using a scissor lift, inspections must cover three core dimensions: equipment structure, safety devices, and operating environment to ensure no potential safety hazards exist.
Inspect the scissor arms for deformation, cracks, or rust. Check the bolts and pins at the connections for any looseness or missing parts. Check the platform guardrails for integrity and tight connections to prevent falls caused by guardrail damage. Also, check the tires and support legs to ensure they are inflated and undamaged, and that the support legs extend smoothly and maintain firm contact with the ground to prevent the equipment from tilting or moving during use.
For hydraulically driven equipment, check the hydraulic oil level to ensure it is within the specified range, check for turbidity or leaks, and check the hydraulic lines and joints for signs of oil seepage. For electric equipment, check the battery charge, the charging port, and the cables for damage or deterioration. Test the equipment's startup and operation to ensure smooth lifting, moving, and other operations without any lags or unusual noises. Ensure the power and drive systems are functioning properly.
Test the overload protection function to confirm that the machine triggers the protection mechanism and stops lifting under simulated overload conditions. Check the emergency brake by pressing the emergency stop button and observing whether the machine stops immediately. Verify that the platform limiter is effective and ensures that it automatically stops when the platform reaches its maximum height to prevent over-limit operation. Also, check the tilt alarm by simulating a tilt to confirm that the alarm is functioning properly and alerting the operator promptly.
Check that the work surface is flat and solid, free of potholes, accumulated water, or debris to prevent the machine from tipping due to uneven ground. If working outdoors, observe weather conditions and avoid using the machine in inclement weather such as heavy rain or strong winds. Check for obstructions above the work area, such as electrical wires and pipes, to ensure that the machine does not collide with any obstacles during lifting. Ensure that no unauthorized personnel are present near the work area and establish safety warning areas to ensure a safe working environment.
